Begun by Rao Jodha in 1459 on a rock 120 metres above the plain, Mehrangarh — “the fort of the sun” — is the fort every other fort in Rajasthan is measured against. Kipling called it the work of giants. Entry for foreign visitors is ₹600 with one of India’s best audio guides included; give it half a day.
