Is Jaswant Thada worth visiting?
Yes — and it fixes a problem you did not know you had
Yes, easily. It costs about ₹100, takes forty minutes, and is ten minutes' walk from Mehrangarh's gate. But the real argument is scheduling rather than sightseeing: the fort closes at 17:00 and sunset is later than that in every month of the season, so Jaswant Thada is where you actually watch the sun go down.
Who it’s for, and who it isn’t
Anyone visiting Mehrangarh
It is ten minutes away and a fraction of the price. Doing the fort and skipping this is the commonest way to half-see Jodhpur.
Anyone who wants the sunset
The fort will not give it to you. This will, and the view back to Mehrangarh from here is the photograph people think they will get from inside it.
Anyone with forty minutes and no plan
Small, quiet, and the marble is genuinely unusual — thin enough that it glows when the light is behind it.
Anyone in a real hurry
If you have three hours in Jodhpur total, spend all of them at Mehrangarh.

Marble thin enough to glow
It is built from sheets of Makrana marble cut unusually thin, so when the sun is low behind them the walls light up from within rather than reflecting off the surface. Commissioned in 1899 by Sardar Singh and finished in 1906 — the 1899 date most sources print is when it was ordered, not when it was built.
