India Unfolded is the creative director. You are the photographer. These aren’t photo spots — the twelve follow a narrative arc, so that together, in order, they tell the whole of Pushkar in one album.
SHOT 01 OF 12 · ARRIVAL
The sunrise bowl
The lotus fell here, the story goes — the lake the whole town is built to face.
The place
The Savitri Mata hill path, south-west of the lake, at sunrise — The Savitri hill path or ropeway; Pap Mochani temple hill, for the other side
Stand here
The path edge. Phone sideways, three layers.
People
Yours — the lake bowl below; your family on the path looking down.
The light
In these months the sun climbs out of the ridges off to your right — east-southeast — so first light rakes across the bowl toward you; the lake catches it as a bright coin while the town stays soft. Haze is normal; it layers the hills.
ARRIVE BEFORE SUNRISE; SHOOT THROUGH FIRST LIGHT Oct–Nov ≈ 6:10am – 7:20am · Dec–Jan ≈ 6:50am – 8:00am · Feb–Mar ≈ 6:30am – 7:40am
Opening times for the ropeway are not published anywhere official — reports give 07:00 or 07:30, which in December and January is BEFORE the 07:15 sunrise. Do not plan a dark 5am climb on the assumption it is shut. Ask at your guesthouse the night before; if it is running, ride up and walk down. The stepped path is ≈45 minutes and unlit, and it is not a climb to make with children in the dark on an unverified timetable.

SHOT 02 OF 12 · THE GHATS
The ghats' curve
Every royal house bought its family a place on sacred water — the lake's rim is a map of Rajputana.
The place
A quiet ghat on the eastern rim, morning — Varah Ghat; Gau Ghat; The eastern rim ghats for the longest curve
Stand here
A quiet ghat's steps. Phone sideways, shoot along the curve.
People
Yours — the crescent of ghats sweeping away; your family seated on the steps.
The light
Early morning: soft light, mirror lake, pilgrims small and unhurried. Photograph the sweep, never the bathers — long views only, faces indistinct.
Cameras and phones typically must be deposited before entering the temple itself — the shot is the spire from the lane, and that's the better picture anyway.
The frame
Lane → family walking → red spire

SHOT 04 OF 12 · THE SURPRISE
The southern skyline
A Hyderabad merchant's temple of 1823 — a Dravidian gopuram a thousand kilometres from home.

Stand here
Across the bazaar. Phone upright, tilt up, tap on the tower.
People
Yours — the tiered tower edge to edge; your family below, looking up.
The light
Late morning light models the tower's tiers; the bazaar below stays in awning shade — a bright crown over a shaded street.
The temple's interior access rules are its own — the picture is the skyline surprise from the street, which needs no permission.

Gopuram edge to edge; family small below

SHOT 06 OF 12 · THE TABLE
The malpua flip
Pushkar's pilgrim sweet — a town that feeds its visitors before it sells to them.
The place
The malpua pans at the market end of the bazaar — The sweet stalls at the market end of the bazaar; A pilgrims' bhojanalaya near the ghats, for the thali
Stand here

SHOT 08 OF 12 · THE CAMELS
Camel silhouettes
The camel fair happens once a year; the camels are here all year.
The place
The low dunes west of town, past Savitri hill's base, golden hour — The dunes west of town, past the Savitri hill base; The fair ground in November, for the real thing
Stand here
Below the ridge. Phone sideways, shoot against the light.
People
Yours — camels crossing the ridge; your family watching from below.
The light
Shoot INTO the sunset: the sky is the canvas, everything crossing it goes to silhouette. Expose for the sky, always.
INTO THE SUNSET AND JUST AFTER Oct–Nov ≈ 5:30pm – 5:50pm · Dec–Jan ≈ 5:25pm – 5:45pm · Feb–Mar ≈ 6:05pm – 6:25pm
Outside fair season the traffic is thinner — a walking herder may take patience; the empty ridge at afterglow is the honest fallback, and it's beautiful.
The frame
Camels on the ridge; family in silhouette

SHOT 10 OF 12 · THE AARTI
The evening flames
Devotion is the town's daily rhythm; you are a guest at it.
The place
The main ghat's evening aarti — from the back — The main ghat (Brahma Ghat) evening aarti
Stand here
The back of the ghat. Night mode, brace, no flash, stay at the back.
People
Yours — the raised flames; the crowd; your family at the edge.
The light
Dusk into dark: the flames become the only warm light over blue water. Expose for the lamps and let the crowd go to warm-edged shadow.
THE EVENING AARTI — DUSK INTO DARK Oct–Nov ≈ 6:00pm – 6:35pm · Dec–Jan ≈ 5:55pm – 6:30pm · Feb–Mar ≈ 6:35pm – 7:10pm
This is worship, not a show: no flash, no lens thrust past shoulders, phone low the moment it feels intrusive. One frame taken respectfully beats twenty taken well.
The frame
Flames, crowd, family at the edge

Stand here
Behind the family. Five paces behind, night mode, mid-step.

The night milk
The closing image — the town's nightcap, shared.

A kesar badam doodh stall in the bazaar, at night — The kesar badam doodh stalls in the main bazaar
Stand here
At the counter. Night mode, close, tap on a face.
People
Yours — the steaming pans; your family's faces in the stall's light.
The light
