Why Brahma temples are rare
Temples to the creator are famously scarce, and Pushkar's is the most celebrated of the few. The legend told here: Brahma's wife Savitri, arriving late to his yagna, cursed that he would be worshipped almost nowhere — except Pushkar. Told as legend; felt as fact at aarti.

The 'Pushkar passport', decoded
A flower pressed into your hand near the lake becomes a guided puja and a firm request for a large donation, sealed with a wrist thread — the famous 'passport'. The puja itself is real; the pressure is the business model. If the thread is already on your wrist and a large number has been named: you owe nothing. There is no temple charge and no priest here is empowered to set one. Say what you are willing to give, give it — ₹100–200 is a normal, respectful offering — put your hands together and leave. Do not open a wallet with more in it than you mean to give. If the number is repeated more loudly, that is the whole of the pressure. The thread does work as a pass: other priests will see it and leave you alone. Genuine pandas serve genuine pilgrims at these ghats and have for centuries — this is a specific, recognisable subset, not the priesthood.

The Shot List™ · our creative direction for Pushkar
Thousands of photos. Not one memory.
Most travelers come home with hundreds of photographs and no real story. The Shot List is our creative direction for the city: twelve moments, in the order that tells the story of Pushkar — and for each one, exactly where to take it, what to focus on and how. No photography ability required. If you can follow five steps, you can bring home the book.
The Pushkar direction, frame by frame — the example photographs are in production.
01 · WHERE TO TAKE IT
The exact place and the hour the light is right — named, not hinted.
02 · WHAT TO FOCUS ON
What goes in the frame, where your family stands, what stays out.
03 · HOW TO TAKE IT
Which way to hold the phone, what to tap, when to press. Five plain steps.
