Jaigarh Fort

Jaigarh is Amber's military fort, on the ridge directly above it in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India — built to protect the palace below and never taken. It holds Jaivana, cast here in 1720 and the largest wheeled cannon in the world, along with long ramparts most visitors never walk. It sits on the City Palace's own ₹500 composite ticket, not the state one, which is the single most common ticketing mistake in Jaipur.

Jaigarh and Amber are connected by a fortified passage, so the two forts were always one system: the palace below, the arsenal above. Doing Amber without walking up here is the commonest way to half-see the site.

The cannon that was fired once

Jaivana was test-fired a single time. The accounts of how far the ball travelled vary wildly and none of them are documented well enough to repeat as fact — what is certain is that it was never used in anger, because no army ever came close enough to Jaigarh to need it. A gun built to be unnecessary, and successful on those terms.
