The City Palace is the working seat of the Jaipur royal family in Rajasthan, India — begun with the city in 1727 by Sawai Jai Singh II, and still partly a private residence. The museum opens 09:30–18:30, last tickets 18:00. There are three tickets and they confuse everyone: the museum, a ₹500 composite adding Jaigarh and the Royal Cenotaphs, and the ₹4,000 Chandra Mahal Royal Tour, sold at the counter only.

The Royal Tour of Chandra Mahal takes you through Sri Niwas, Chhavi Niwas, Shobha Niwas and Pritam Niwas with a personal guide. It is expensive and it is the only way to see the private apartments; if you are going to spend money on one thing in Jaipur, this is a defensible choice.

Three things are called 'the composite ticket'

Jaipur sells a state composite covering nine sites including Amber and Hawa Mahal; a separate Rajasthan pass good for ten days across the state; and the City Palace's own ₹500 composite covering the palace, Jaigarh and the Royal Cenotaphs. They are different products sold by different bodies, and asking for 'the composite' will get you whichever one the person in front of you sells.
