Why seven is the floor for a real Rajasthan trip

Because the distances are the whole problem. Jaipur to Jodhpur is six hours. Jodhpur to Udaipur is five. Jodhpur to Jaisalmer is five. Every city you add costs most of a day before you have seen anything, and no amount of planning removes that.

Seven days means three cities with two nights each and a day spare. Six days means three cities with no margin, and the first delay eats a fort. Rajasthan produces delays.

What each extra block of days actually buys

Days 8–10 buy you Jaisalmer and a night in the Thar — the single biggest upgrade available, and the thing most people say afterwards was the best part.

Days 11–14 buy you Ranthambore and Pushkar: a tiger, and a town small enough to walk. They also buy margin, which on a two-week trip matters more than another monument.

Beyond fourteen, you are into Bundi, Chittorgarh, Shekhawati and Mount Abu — all good, none essential, and better as a second trip than as a longer first one.

If you genuinely only have five days

Do two cities, not three. Jodhpur and Udaipur, flying into one and out of the other, is a fine five-day trip. Jaipur and Jodhpur works too.

Do not attempt the Golden Triangle plus a Rajasthani city in five days. You will spend two of them in a car and remember the car.

The mistake almost everyone makes

Adding a city instead of a day. A fourth city on a seven-day trip does not give you a fourth city — it takes a day off each of the other three and gives you four rushed ones.

The trips people describe most fondly are always the ones with a spare day in them. Build the spare day in first and then see what fits.
