Look Closer™ · The Houseboat
Stand here. Look for this.
Five things at The Houseboat that almost everyone walks straight past — the exact place to stand and what you are actually seeing. It is the page readers tell us they photograph and carry to the gate.

The water is above the field
The bund is the whole trick: coconut poles, sand and lake clay, holding a lake out of a field. The pumps that drain it — the petti-and-para — were invented here. Green in December to February, gold and cut by April, flooded by June.

The pier that isn't
Captain Hugh Crawford's pier of 1862 — about 390 metres of cast iron — loaded coir for a century and has had no ship since 1989. A replacement was announced in 2023; the lighthouse beside it, lit with coconut oil in 1862, still works.

The Shot List™ · our creative direction for Alleppey
Thousands of photos. Not one memory.
Most travelers come home with hundreds of photographs and no real story. The Shot List is our creative direction for the city: twelve moments, in the order that tells the story of Alleppey — and for each one, exactly where to take it, what to focus on and how. No photography ability required. If you can follow five steps, you can bring home the book.
The Alleppey direction, frame by frame — the example photographs are in production.
01 · WHERE TO TAKE IT
The exact place and the hour the light is right — named, not hinted.
02 · WHAT TO FOCUS ON
What goes in the frame, where your family stands, what stays out.
03 · HOW TO TAKE IT
Which way to hold the phone, what to tap, when to press. Five plain steps.
